When complete this site will be a comprehensive history of the Blackman Family that originated in England.
At present I am concentrating on gathering data for the family tree. I have completed an initial run-through of the 1841-1911 censuses and am now working my way back through relevant Parish registers. These are primarily in Kent, Sussex, Surrey, London, Hampshire, Wiltshire & Huntingdonshire, as well as Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire & Berkshire. Although the tree is only partially complete it already contains over 20,000 individuals, and I thought it would be worthwhile to make it available on-line in case there are people out there who might be interested in what I have discovered so far.
A quick word about place names. Where possible I have placed villages in their traditional counties - so for instance Yaxley is in Huntingdonshire. However, around London I found this did not work because of the constantly shifting boundaries of London and Middlesex, so I have done away with Middlesex, and have used current definitions of London - hence for example Kingston upon Thames and Lewisham are in London.
The site is organized to enable you to trace a person either according to their family name (Surname Index), or by where they lived (Master Place Index).
